Manufacturing
Oswego's natural resources and central location in the Northeast make it a prime choice for industrial development. The Oswego Harbor, Erie Canale system, county airport, and expressways make Oswego County an ideal location for shipping products worldwide.
Manufacturing has palyed an important part in the development of our county. Since the early 1800's the canal has connected our communities and added to our industrial development.
Oswego County is currently home to nineteen manufacturers whose products varying from food to alternative energy. These firms employ 4,500 people in our county. Six of the nineteen manufacturers are power producers. Our area is among the top power producing regions in the country with three nuclear power plants, two co-generation plants, hydroelectric stations, fossil fuel and ethanol.
The infrastructure in place at the Port of Oswego Authority allows that organization to play a tremendous role in the success of much of our manufacturers. The facility receives and moves product via truck and rail to other parts of our region. It is the leading port in the St. Lawrence Seaway.
These manufacturers play a key role in our economic development as well as the quality of life in our communities. They are partners and sponsors for many projects and events throughout Oswego County. Together we will continue to make this region a place to live, work and do business.
